StarOil CEO Takes Swipe at Rivals as Firm Records Highest-Ever Daily Fuel Sales.

The Chief Executive Officer of Star Oil Ghana, Kwame Tieku, has taken a veiled swipe at competitors questioning the company’s fuel pricing strategy, insisting that Ghanaians remember which oil marketing companies stood with them during periods of extreme price hikes.

In a Facebook post that has generated significant discussion within the downstream petroleum sector, Mr Tieku recalled the company’s pricing approach during the 2022 fuel crisis, when prices surged sharply nationwide.

“When in 2022 prices were racing upwards unbearably for Ghanaians, we were the ones who used our 162 stations then to keep prices as low as possible when the ‘other inefficient one’, who should have known better was busy pricing along with the ‘obroni’ ones,” he wrote.

Questioning why Star Oil’s credibility on low pricing is now being challenged, Mr Tieku emphasised that the company’s commitment to consumers has not wavered.

“Now they come questioning our credibility in low pricing?” he added.

The Star Oil CEO further revealed that the company posted its highest single-day sales on record over the weekend, attributing the milestone to strong customer loyalty driven by the firm’s Starsavers initiative.

“Starsavers are united more than ever before, and we had our highest daily sales on record so far this weekend. We are firmly on course to delivering 90 million litres by the end of the month. Ghanaians have not forgotten,” he stated.

Although Mr Tieku did not mention any company by name, industry observers believe the comments were directed at Goil Ghana, following recent remarks by its CEO, Edward Bawa, on fuel pricing.

The exchange underscores the intensifying competition in Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector, as oil marketing companies aggressively battle for market share in an environment where consumers remain highly sensitive to fuel price fluctuations.
