We’re working to resolve Ofori-Atta’s US detention-Frank Davies: Ken Ofori Atta’s lawyer

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in Ghana “wants” former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to appear for questioning as part of ongoing investigations into multiple allegations of corruption and abuse of office during his tenure. He has been declared a fugitive from justice due to his failure to appear in person for these investigations for charges of corruption and causing financial loss to the state.

Frank Davies, the attorney for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, has said that his legal team in the United States is attempting to expedite the resolution of his immigration case and that a decision is anticipated in the next several days.

Ofori-Atta submitted a request for an extension of his U.S. immigration status, according to Frank Davies, who made the observation on Citi Eyewitness News on Thursday, January 8.Nevertheless, he is now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and is being detained at the Caroline Detention Center.

“From our counterpart attorneys in the United States, I know, however little, that he submitted a petition for an extension of his immigration status, and ICE, for whatever reason, picked him up based on that,” Mr Davies said.
The rationale for the arrest is still unknown, he said. “I’m at a loss as to why they have chosen to arrest and hold him.”

But Davies gave his word that the legal staff are putting in countless hours to find a solution to the problem. “They are attempting to get this issue resolved as soon as possible. It may take a day or two for us to learn what choice has been made, but we will eventually learn it, he said.
