Wa West MP gives financial aid to reshape key roads.

The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu, has provided financial support to the district assembly to open and reshape key roads as part of efforts to improve access to farms, markets, and health facilities in the largely rural district.

The initiative forms part of a broader push to address longstanding challenges linked to poor road networks, which local authorities say have constrained economic activity and limited access to basic services.

Road infrastructure has remained one of the most pressing development concerns in Wa West, affecting the transportation of farm produce, access to healthcare, and overall economic growth. Mr Toobu said improving road connectivity was central to opening up rural communities and accelerating development.

He stressed that development should not be viewed as a privilege but as a right, noting that quality road networks are essential to ensuring communities are not isolated from social and economic opportunities.

According to the MP, the first phase of the project covers about 55 kilometres of roads and is being financed through the Ghana Cedi Fund. He described it as the initial stage of a wider infrastructure programme aimed at improving connectivity across the district.

“We are going to see improvements in health outcomes and a reduction in poverty,” Mr Toobu said. “For farming communities, good roads mean their produce can reach markets, and communities that were previously cut off can begin to develop.”

The Wa West District Chief Executive, Richard Wullo, said poor road infrastructure had for years hindered development in the area. He welcomed the MP’s contribution of GH₵100,000 to the district assembly, which is being used to open and reshape some of the most critical roads.

“I am happy to announce that work has already started, and some of the badly damaged roads have already been reshaped,” he said.

Mr Wullo added that improved road access would help reduce post-harvest losses, create new economic opportunities and boost the district’s internally generated revenue, with particular benefits for women and farming communities.
