The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, says several major road projects that stalled under the previous administration are set to resume following new allocations in Ghana’s 2026 national budget.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews, Dr Amoakohene said contractors working on key road infrastructure in the region have now been resourced to return to site, raising expectations that long-delayed projects will finally be completed.
He attributed earlier delays to the absence of dedicated funding, adding that the government has now put in place mechanisms to provide contractors with the liquidity required to continue work.
Among the projects earmarked for immediate action is the dual carriageway from the Bekwai Roundabout to the Santase Roundabout, being executed by China Geo. According to the minister, funds for the project were released earlier this month, and the contractor is expected to mobilize to the site by next week.
Work is also due to resume on Phase Two of the Kumasi–Sunyani road, particularly the badly deteriorated stretch from Abuakwa through to Mankranso. Dr Amoakohene said construction on that section is scheduled to begin next week, with priority given to the Mukpa–Mankranso segment, which has suffered extensive damage.
“From Mukpa to Mankranso, there are a lot of damaged areas, and that section is now under construction,” he said.
The Minister indicated that the renewed funding covers other major but stalled projects in the region, including the Sewua Regional Hospital road, the Suame Interchange, and the Santase–Anwiankwanta dual carriage road.
Dr Amoakohene said the resumption of work marks a significant step forward for infrastructure development in the Ashanti Region, describing it as the start of a broader construction push made possible by provisions in the 2026 budget.
