SSNIT to roll out loyalty programme and telemedicine services for pensioners.

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is set to introduce a new Loyalty Programme that will grant pensioners discounts at selected hotels, retail shops, and partner facilities across the country. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the welfare of pensioners by providing additional benefits beyond their monthly pension payments.

The Director-General of SSNIT, Mr. Kwesi Afreh Biney, announced the initiative during an engagement with pensioners in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital, last Tuesday.

“By simply being an SSNIT pensioner, you receive preferential rates. It is our way of saying thank you as we seek to improve the value proposition of the scheme,” Mr Afreh Biney said.

He explained that although the loyalty programme does not fall within SSNIT’s core mandate, it is designed to add value to the lives of pensioners. According to him, discussions with relevant stakeholders are at an advanced stage to ensure a smooth nationwide rollout.

Over the years, SSNIT pensioners have consistently received their monthly payments on time. Many have also benefited from healthcare support initiatives under the Pensioners Medical Scheme (PMS), facilitated through the National Pensioners Association (NPA). However, the Trust says more can be done to improve the welfare of retirees.

In addition to the loyalty programme, SSNIT is planning to introduce telemedicine services for pensioners. The proposed initiative will allow pensioners to consult medical professionals remotely via telephone and digital platforms, improving access to healthcare services.

Pensioners at the Tamale engagement, speaking through the Northern Regional leadership of the NPA, expressed satisfaction with the planned initiatives. They said the programmes would help ease financial pressures, improve access to healthcare and enhance their overall quality of life.
