A set of hospital supplies worth around GH$50,000 has been given to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s Palliative and Geriatric Units by Health Quarters Ghana, a social enterprise that promotes health and well-being via digital content production.
To assist in the treatment and care of the elderly and terminally ill, the gear comprises pulse oximeters, BP monitors, sophisticated wheelchairs, gun thermometers, and crank beds with accessories.
McSarpong Medical Equipment and Supplies Limited, one of Ghana’s fastest-growing medical supplies firms, supported the gift.
Dr Gideon Assan, the project lead for Health Quarters Ghana, donated the products on behalf of the two organizations, saying that the act is meant to put the organization’s advocacy for health and wellbeing into practice by helping medical institutions carry out their mission of providing patients with high-quality health care.
“Our goal at Health Quarters has been to discover novel methods of raising health awareness among the Ghanaian population and informing them about their health. However, we are aware that these health facilities are the ones who end up providing treatment and taking the lead in protecting our healthcare. For this reason, we believed it was crucial to go beyond the media and television education and start organizing resources so that they may deliver high-quality care for all of us.
“We are thankful for the kind assistance of our partners at McSarpong Medical Supplies, who believed in the concept and made this gift possible,” Dr Assan stated.
When Dr. George Bediako Nketiah, a consultant family physician specialist and head of the department at the Korle Bu Polyclinic, received the products along with his management team, he praised Health Quarters Ghana for the initiative and appealed for philanthropy and stakeholder assistance to help the institution upgrade and grow its palliative and geriatric units in order to better serve patients.
“It was actually like you were listening to our prayers. Since we are now in the process of growing the palliative and geriatric units, this equipment is a good place to start. We are happy to share our designs and estimates with potential collaborators since we have them already. We may modernize our palliative and geriatric units with the help of corporate Ghana to better meet the demands of our patients.
“As you know, we are all going to age or be impacted by one terminal illness or the other; therefore, we all have a shared responsibility to improve this location, where we offer the best palliative and geriatric care in Ghana. In accordance with our growth strategy, this is a praiseworthy move, and we respectfully request the backing of philanthropic organizations and other organizations,” said Dr. Nketiah.
A prominent member of the Health Quarters Ghana team, comic actor Clemento Suarez, was on hand to promote the gift, along with additional volunteers representing a range of vocations, all of whom contribute to the organization in various ways.
The deplorable state of affairs in the hospital’s palliative and geriatrics unit, which requires urgent support from stakeholders and charity to restore, grow, and re-equip these essential units of the hospital, was made clear by a tour of them.
