A 29-year-old labourer, Emmanuel Frimpong, also known as Ebo Noah, has been sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment by the Kwadaso Circuit Court in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region for stealing GH¢12,000 at Kumasi-Santasi.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Mr Jephthah Appau.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector David Opoku Kwabi told the court that the complainant, Blackjew Appiah, is a sales officer with a Unilever products distribution company in Santasi, where the convict worked as a labourer.
According to the prosecution, on January 7, 2026, the complainant went to a mobile money vendor, Leticia Gyamfi, to withdraw GH¢12,000 from his mobile money wallet. After a successful cash-out, the vendor was unable to immediately raise the full amount and asked for some time, to which the complainant agreed.
The prosecutor said that when the vendor later raised the full amount, she spotted the convict, who had also come to deposit money into his mobile money wallet. She subsequently contacted the complainant and proposed handing over the cash to the convict for delivery to him at the office. The complainant consented to the arrangement.
However, after receiving the money, the convict diverted from the agreed plan and travelled to a hotel in Cape Coast, in the Central Region, where he reportedly spent four days with commercial sex workers.
After exhausting the stolen funds, the convict travelled to Wromanso in the Amansie East District of the Ashanti Region.
A report was later lodged with the police at Suntreso, leading to the arrest of the convict at Wromanso. Following investigations, he was charged and brought before the court, where he was convicted and sentenced accordingly.
