The Adenta Circuit Court has remanded a 30-year-old laundry attendant into police custody for allegedly publishing false information likely to cause fear and panic among the public.
The accused, Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, is said to have posted a video on his TikTok account, @breakingnewsghana, claiming that two military officers were plotting to assassinate President John Dramani Mahama.
Razzaq was charged with the publication of false news. The court, presided over by the Adenta Circuit Court, did not take his plea and ordered that he be held in custody until February 9, 2026, when he is expected to reappear.
The prosecution is being led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, with the Ghana Police Service listed as the complainant.
According to facts presented to the court, the accused, on January 20, 2026, published a video alleging that Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph were involved in an assassination plot against the president.
He was arrested a day later at Adjiringanor in the Greater Accra Region.
In his caution statement, Razzaq admitted to making the video but stated that he had never met the named officers and did not know them personally. He told investigators that he had merely come across an alleged post on social media and decided to publish the claim.
However, he was unable to direct investigators to the original source of the alleged information.
