Accra New Town-Rescue of trapped worshippers intensify after collapse of building

In Accra New Town, the rescue of trapped worshippers has been intensified following the collapse of the building. Following the collapse of a four-storey structure at Accra New Town, rescue efforts have ramped up throughout the night.

Teams of rescuers are hurrying against time to get to victims who are thought to be trapped under the rubble. Earlier today, the Ghana Police Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the Ghana National Fire Service responded to the incident on a large scale and have now taken complete command of the situation.

According to NADMO, 10 individuals have been recovered from the debris thus far, and the search is still going on despite the difficult circumstances. The total number of people who were trapped or hurt has not yet been verified by the authorities.

Floodlights and rescue gear have been sent to support continuing operations as nightfall approaches. Emergency responders, aided by volunteers from the community, are putting forth tremendous effort to remove debris in the hopes of finding survivors. Adding to the urgency of the rescue effort, eyewitnesses claim that some trapped victims can still be heard calling for help from under the rubble.

It is thought that the fallen building is an unfinished structure that is part of the Accra New Town Experimental Basic School campus, which is also used by Christians for worship on Sundays.

Prior to the arrival of emergency crews, onlookers and locals were seen helping with rescue operations using their bare hands and basic equipment. Since then, security in the vicinity has been increased to reduce future danger, and curious bystanders are still collecting, hoping for additional survivors to be rescued from the debris.

According to rescue teams, life-saving operations will go on throughout the night. This is a developing story which would be updated intermittently
