Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the previous CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has been officially charged with spreading misleading information by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), according to his legal counsel. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the MP for Manhyia South, told Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen that the accusation involves claims that someone paid money to get a government-funded trip to study overseas.
According to Awuah, NIB agents detained and interrogated Mr. Nkansah on Tuesday before filing the accusation.
“He has been charged and remains in NIB custody, despite the fact that he was scheduled to be released on bond. “How do you detain someone who is accused of circulating false news?” he questioned. The attorney said that Mr Nkansah is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
His detention follows President John Mahama’s instruction for the NIB to look into his claims of wrongdoing in the granting of foreign scholarships, which he addressed on Sompa 106.5 FM.
According to a statement dated February 3, 2026, signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, the Presidency stated that the accusation has sparked considerable public interest after a Twi-language debate was widely circulated across media channels.
Mr. Nkansah was then invited by the NIB to assist with investigations after a search of his house on Tuesday.
