Uncovered manhole at Adidome lorry park poses danger to market patrons

An exposed manhole, which is situated behind the old toilet facility in the town and close to the lorry park in the Central Tongu District, has caused safety worries for Adidome residents, according to them.

In an open letter to the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Dodzi Addison Mornyuie, the Assembly Member of the Adidome Central Electoral Area, Mr. Guggisberg Fiagbenu, brought the state of the infrastructure to the attention of the public and urged that the necessary measures be taken to increase public safety.

The manhole, he pointed out, was still open and lacked safety barriers, posing a possible danger to commuters, traders, and tourists, especially when visibility was low.
Despite the existence of trash containers nearby, Mr. Fiagbenu also noticed that some members of the public occasionally dumped garbage into the open manhole, a situation he described as needing attention.

Consequently, he petitioned the Tongu Central District Assembly to explore demolishing the abandoned building in order to adequately cover the manhole and to allocate funds for the building of a modern public toilet facility to assist with sanitation requirements at the lorry park.

The lorry park was described by certain residents who spoke with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) as a crucial commercial and transportation centre, and they voiced optimism that the issues that were brought up would be addressed.

They claimed that addressing the problem would increase safety, particularly for kids, the elderly, and new users of the site, as well as help improve hygiene in the neighbourhood.
Mr Mornyuie answered the petition and gave the assurance that the Assembly was looking into the matter in response to the concerns.

The Assembly’s top priorities continue to be public safety and cleanliness, according to Mr Mornyuie, who stated that the Assembly would collaborate with its Works Department and other stakeholders in order to evaluate the issue and take necessary action.

He stated that the concerns raised would be taken into account in the Assembly’s development and sanitation programmes and that work was being done to enhance sanitation infrastructure throughout the district.
