NPP commences process to expel Prof Frimpong Boateng.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated formal proceedings to expel former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, following his criticism of the party’s leadership and internal processes.

In an interview with Channel One TV’s Bernard Avle on Monday, 12 January 2026, Prof Frimpong-Boateng described the current NPP as “fake” and questioned the credibility of its internal democratic processes.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken “due notice” of the remarks and noted that the former minister stated he no longer considers himself a member of the party.

The statement added that Prof Frimpong-Boateng had made what the party described as “disparaging remarks” and alleged that the 2023 presidential primary was manipulated in favour of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s candidate for the 2024 general elections.

“The Party unequivocally rejects Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s unfortunate characterisation of the NPP and firmly denies his baseless and unsubstantiated allegations regarding the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,” the statement said.

It reiterated that the 2023 primary was “free, fair, transparent, and credible” and had been widely accepted by all participating aspirants.

The NPP described Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s actions as “highly reprehensible and inimical to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party,” adding that his public comments undermined internal cohesion and discipline.

“Consequently, the Party has invoked the relevant provisions of its Constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the Party, strictly in accordance with due process,” the statement concluded.
