Ghana’s Interior Ministry says it has received reports that a truck carrying Ghanaian tomato traders was caught up in a terrorist attack in northern Burkina Faso. In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Minister for the Interior and National Security, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the government described the development as disturbing. The incident is said to have occurred in the town of Titao on Saturday, 14 February 2026.
According to the statement, the vehicle transporting the traders was affected during the attack, raising concerns about the safety of those on board. Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of Ghanaians involved or whether there were any casualties. Ghana’s Embassy in Burkina Faso is now working with local officials to gather further details and verify the identities of any nationals who may have been impacted.
The government says the public will be updated as more information becomes available. The incident comes amid ongoing security challenges in parts of the Sahel region, where extremist violence has intensified in recent years, particularly in northern Burkina Faso.
