Mahama visits Burkina Faso attack survivors at 37 Military Hospital

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, 18 February, visited two survivors of the recent terrorist attack in Burkina Faso who are receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

The victims were among a group of Ghanaian tomato traders travelling on a truck that was ambushed by armed assailants. According to reports, the attackers lined up the men on board, shot them, and set the vehicle ablaze.

President Mahama, accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, commiserated with the survivors and assured them that the government would cover their medical expenses.

The President, who had been on official assignment in Takoradi earlier in the day, went directly to the hospital upon arrival in Accra to obtain first-hand information about the incident and interact with the victims.

Seven Ghanaians who lost their lives in the attack have since been buried. The survivors were transported back to Ghana by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Authorities say the survivors are receiving counselling and other forms of support, while those who sustained injuries continue to undergo treatment.

The president, who was in Takoradi earlier in the morning on official assignment, dashed to the hospital immediately after his flight landed to engage the victims for first-hand information on the sad incident.

Seven Ghanaians killed in the incident have since been buried, while the survivors have been successfully transported home by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
