Ho- Police Officers confiscate 26 bags of suspected illegal drugs.

In a significant intelligence-led operation in Ho, the Volta regional capital, the Volta Regional Police Command intercepted 26 bags of materials thought to be Indian hemp.

According to intelligence obtained on January 23, 2026, a white American Ford waggon with registration number  GV 2460-14, belonging to the Ghana Health Service had been carrying what was thought to be drugs from Dzolokpuita to Ho. The seizure occurred after that.

A joint team from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU), the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), and the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) acted quickly on the information by conducting surveillance and chasing the car after the driver disregarded signals to stop at the Ziave Police Checkpoint.

After what police called a “hot chase”, the car was finally stopped close to the Tarso Hotel in Ho.In the presence of the suspect, who was identified as Godsway Kwaku Dogbey, 38, a worker with the Ghana Health Service Directorate in Ho, a search revealed 26 maxi bags carrying 2,045 yellow oval-shaped wrapped compressed leaves that were thought to be Indian hemp.

The street worth of the shipment is thought to be approximately GH¢1,022,500.

The Volta Regional Police Command verified the operation, stating that the arrest is a component of continuing attempts to combat drug trafficking in the area.

“This successful interception shows our dedication to breaking drug trafficking networks and safeguarding communities from the destructive impacts of narcotics,” stated Chief Inspector Francis Kwaku Gomado, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in the Volta Region.

Arrangements are being made for the artefacts to be sent to the Forensic Laboratory for scientific examination, while the suspect is now in police custody assisting with the inquiry.

The public has been reassured by the Police Command that it will increase surveillance and continue its efforts to combat crimes involving narcotics throughout the area. The suspect’s capture has been verified by the Volta Regional Health Directorate, which has also stated that he works as a driver for the Directorate.
