According to George Opare-Addo, Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, the government’s flagship employment programme, the 24-hour economy, will be completely implemented by the end of 2026.
On Thursday, January 8, Mr Opare-Addo told Nhyira FM that the government is dedicated to making sure this policy is implemented effectively.
He said that there would be substantial changes needed to transition from the well-established 8-hour workday system to a 24-hour economy, and that these changes could not be made in only a year.
“In no less than 12 months may an economy that has been in place for years be transformed from an 8-hour to a 24-hour system.” The process of legislative action and direction is currently underway, and it needs that.
By the end of 2026, Mr Opare-Addo urged Ghanaians to expect the full implementation of the policy.
“Every honest person will see that progress is being made. The economy’s structure cannot be transformed overnight; rather, it happens over time. By the end of this year, we anticipate seeing the full impact of the 24-hour economy, and we are clearly on course, he stated.
