Ghana’s Ambassador to U.S. Confirms Detention of Former MASLOC CEO Amid Conflicting Media Reports.

Washington, D.C., USA – Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has disputed a media report questioning the detention of former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre.

The controversy arose after Asaase Radio reported that its review of the detention centre’s website showed no record of Madam Tamakloe-Attionu being held at the facility, contradicting an earlier statement from Ghana’s Embassy confirming her custody.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on January 16, Ambassador Smith dismissed the Asaase Radio findings, emphasizing that his information came from verified official sources. He also confirmed that the former MASLOC CEO has an upcoming court date scheduled for January 21, 2026.

“What you’re saying is that Asaase have issued their own counter-statement? But that is Asaase Radio… I don’t know where they’re coming from, why they want to muddy the waters,” Ambassador Smith said.

He added, “I have heard it from official sources, where this lady is being kept, and that she’s going to go to court on the 21st (January).”

The Ambassador revealed that Asaase Radio had attempted to contact him for comment, but he declined, citing what he described as their attempt to “muddy the waters”.

This confirmation underscores the Embassy’s ongoing role in monitoring and facilitating the extradition and judicial proceedings of Ghanaian nationals abroad, particularly in high-profile cases such as that of Madam Tamakloe-Attionu.
