Ghana begins construction process for Volivo Bridge with Japanese support.

Ghana has begun preliminary processes towards the construction of the Volivo Bridge, a major infrastructure project expected to become the tallest road bridge in the country, with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The proposed bridge will be a 540-metre cable-stayed structure, featuring twin towers rising 51 metres above ground level. When completed, it is expected to significantly improve transport links between the Volta and Oti regions.

Government officials say the project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen critical infrastructure and open up regional economic corridors, allowing for easier movement of people, goods and services.

Improved connectivity is expected to boost trade, enhance access to social services and support economic development in communities across the two regions.

Japan’s involvement through JICA highlights its continued commitment to supporting sustainable and resilient infrastructure development in Africa, with the partnership reflecting a shared focus on high-quality engineering and long-term growth.

Once completed, the Volivo Bridge is expected to stand as both a major engineering landmark and a symbol of Ghana’s drive towards modern, inclusive infrastructure development.
