The president of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has commended the Mahama administration for what he described as a disciplined and steady start to managing Ghana’s economy.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Citi FM on Saturday, 10 January, Mr Cudjoe said the government had begun its tenure on a positive footing, particularly in terms of fiscal management.
He said questions had been raised about the basis for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s claims of economic improvement but noted that the response from the Finance Minister had been clear and consistent.
According to Mr Cudjoe, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has attributed the early signs of improvement to a renewed emphasis on economic discipline under the current administration.
Mr Cudjoe said this focus on discipline has helped shape the government’s economic direction and policy priorities.
He suggested that stricter control of public finances and adherence to defined economic goals have set the current administration apart from previous governments, contributing to increased confidence in the economy.
“I think this government, with Ato Forson and the president, started on a good note,” Mr Cudjoe said. “When the question was asked about what the NDC had done to justify talk of improvement or growth, the answer was simple: the difference is economic discipline.”
