Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, a prominent member of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle constituency, has been remanded into custody in the United States following an alleged violent domestic incident in Pennsylvania.
The Lower Paxton Township Police Department confirmed that the 41-year-old politician was arrested on Saturday, January 17, 2026, after authorities responded to a distress call at a residence along Mayfair Drive in Harrisburg at approximately 10:00 a.m.
Upon arrival, police found a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency responders immediately transported the victim to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
In a statement released on Monday, police provided an update on her condition, describing it as stable.
“The woman was taken to the hospital by first responders and is currently in stable condition,” the police said, adding that the incident was an isolated domestic dispute and that “there was never any threat to the public.”
Investigators reportedly spent several hours at the residence on Saturday processing the scene and collecting forensic evidence.

Online court records indicate that Mr Nortey was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who denied him bail due to the seriousness of the attempted homicide charge and the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
As a result, the former parliamentary aspirant has been remanded into custody at the Dauphin County Prison.
Mr Nortey rose to national prominence in Ghana during the 2016 and 2020 general elections, where he contested the highly competitive Klottey Korle parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NPP. He has since remained a recognisable figure within the party, particularly among the Ghanaian diaspora in the United States.
News of his arrest has sent shockwaves through NPP circles both in Ghana and abroad, especially as the party prepares for its 2028 flagbearer primary. As of the time of filing this report, the NPP has not issued an official statement on the matter.
Mr Nortey is expected to appear in court again on January 26, 2026, for a preliminary hearing. The hearing will determine whether sufficient evidence exists for the case to proceed to the Court of Common Pleas.
