EC declares March 3 for Ayawaso East By-Election.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has fixed Tuesday, March 3, 2026, as the date for a parliamentary by-election in the Ayawaso East Constituency.

The by-election follows the death of the area’s Member of Parliament, Hon. Mahama Naser Toure, which has created a vacancy in Parliament and necessitated a fresh poll in accordance with Ghana’s electoral laws.

In a press release dated January 16, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Chairman of the EC in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, the Commission outlined key timelines and procedures for the conduct of the election.

According to the EC, nominations for prospective parliamentary candidates will be received at the Ayawaso East Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission in North Ridge from Monday, February 9, to Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

Nomination submissions will be accepted daily between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The Commission has urged all political parties and independent candidates interested in contesting the by-election to strictly adhere to the outlined schedule and guidelines to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process.

The Ayawaso East by-election is expected to attract significant political attention, given the constituency’s strategic importance and history of keenly contested parliamentary races.

The EC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and transparent election, calling on stakeholders, security agencies, political parties, and residents of the constituency to cooperate fully to maintain peace before, during, and after the polls.

The constituents of Ayawaso East will go into the polls on 3rd March 2026 to replace the deceased MP, Hon. Naser Toure Mahama, of the NDC, who died on 4th January 2026.
