The NDC’s national leadership released a statement earlier in the day denouncing what it called widespread bribery and inducement incidents at several polling places and declaring the immediate start of investigations into the charges.
The party stated in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, that it would take prompt disciplinary action against any candidate found guilty and cautioned that future events may result in severe penalties, such as the potential cancellation of elections.
With party leaders and security officers closely monitoring the voting process, delegates nevertheless cast their ballots despite the disagreements.
Baba Jamal’s win puts him in the position of the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election, a crucial election in the Greater Accra Region, as the party aims to hold onto the seat.
The NDC has reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the integrity of its internal democratic processes and to ensuring that every candidate strictly abides by party regulations and electoral procedures.
