Two persons died, and 21 more were injured in an incident along the Assin Fosu–Kumasi route on the night of January 1, 2025.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 9 p. m. , while a bus carrying members of the Believers Worship Centre (Second Chance) and marked with Methodist Wesley Church branding was travelling from a 31st Night crossover service in Kumasi to Assin Fosu and Breman Asikuma.
When the vehicle arrived at Assin Dansame, it run into a crowd of persons participating in a street procession.
Among those killed were a 21-year-old apprentice, Maame Yaa, a Sunyani Technical University student, and one other individual, both of whom allegedly died on the spot. Twenty-one (21) individuals were injured and transported to various regional hospitals for treatment.
The accident caused resentment among locals, with some furious youths vandalizing the bus, destroying it totally. To restore order, police officers were dispatched to the area.
According to ASP Wonder Lumor, the Central North Regional MTTD Commander, an inquiry has begun to determine the cause of the tragedy.
