A new opinion poll by Global InfoAnalytics has placed Hajia Amina Adams firmly in the lead ahead of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency, giving her a commanding advantage over her closest competitors.
According to the survey, Hajia Amina Adams commands 58 per cent of voter preference among delegates and party supporters, positioning her as the clear favourite to secure the party’s ticket in the hotly contested constituency.
Hajia Amina Adams is the widow of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure.
Wide Lead Over Rivals
Results presented by Global InfoAnalytics Executive Director Mussa Dankwah show a significant gap between her and her main challenger, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal.
• Hajia Amina Adams – 58%
• Baba Jamal – 32%
• Muhammed Ramne, Dr Yakubu Azindow, and Najib Muhammed Sani – combined 10%
The figures suggest what analysts describe as a largely two-horse race, with Adams and Jamal accounting for about 90 per cent of declared voter preference.
Factors Behind the Surge
Political observers attribute Adams’ strong performance to a combination of factors, including:
• strong grassroots engagement
• effective constituency outreach
• sympathy support following the death of her husband
• growing confidence among party faithful in her electability
Her 26-point lead over Baba Jamal is viewed as significant, particularly as the primaries approach.
Analysts say this margin suggests momentum in her favour, although they caution that last-minute shifts, delegate mobilisation and turnout patterns could still alter the outcome.
Jamal Maintains Solid Base
Despite trailing, Baba Jamal’s 32 per cent support reflects a solid base within the constituency.
A seasoned politician and diplomat, Jamal is considered well-known within both the local and national party structures. Observers note that his campaign’s success will largely depend on effective mobilisation and consolidation of undecided voters before polling day.
Smaller Candidates Could Play Kingmaker
The remaining candidates — Muhammed Ramne, Dr Yakubu Azindow and Najib Muhammed Sani — collectively account for 10 per cent of voter preference.
While their numbers are relatively modest, analysts say their supporters could still prove influential, especially if alliances or tactical voting emerge in the final stages of the race.
Competitive Primary Ahead
The Ayawaso East seat remains strategically important for the NDC, and the primary is expected to be closely watched as the party prepares for upcoming national elections.
If current polling trends hold, Hajia Amina Adams enters the contest as the candidate to beat.
