Late Ayawaso East MP’s Wife Declares Bid for By-Election Seat.

Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, has declared her intention to contest the upcoming parliamentary by-election in the constituency.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on January 16, 2026, fixed Tuesday, March 3, 2026, for the by-election following the death of the sitting MP, which rendered the seat vacant.

In accordance with Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution, the EC is required to organise a by-election whenever a parliamentary seat becomes vacant.

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 22, Hajia Adam said her decision to contest was influenced by strong appeals from constituents, grassroots party members, and traditional authorities, urging her to continue the legacy of her late husband.

She described the late Mahama Naser Toure as a dedicated public servant who served the Ayawaso East Constituency with distinction, adding that she took time to reflect and consult widely before accepting the call to serve.

“There has been a clarion call from many quarters in my constituency and beyond for me to step into the shoes of my late husband,” she said. “After deep reflection and consultations, particularly with elders and grassroots members, I have accepted the call to serve my people.”

Hajia Adam acknowledged that her decision comes at a time of personal grief but said she was encouraged by the support and counsel of chiefs, imams, youth leaders and other opinion leaders in the constituency.

“I want to assure them that I will not disappoint them,” she added.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced guidelines for the conduct of its Ayawaso East parliamentary primary in the Greater Accra Region as part of preparations toward the March 3 by-election.
