Wa High court sentences serial killer to life imprisonment.

The High Court in Wa has condemned a serial murderer to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to multiple charges of murder in the Upper West and Savannah areas. According to a press statement dated March 4, 2026, issued by the Ghana Police Service’s Public Affairs Unit in the Upper West Region, the court sentenced Shariff Abdulai, also known as “Cristos,” for the killing of Issah Yahaya and 22 others.

Abdulai admitted to murdering 16 individuals in Wa, five in Bole, and one each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi, according to the statement. According to police, the culprit was arrested on October 6, 2025, after what they described as extensive, intelligence-led operations and investigations.

Following committal proceedings at the District Magistrate Court, he was arraigned before the High Court in Wa on March 4, 2026. Abdulai confessed guilt to the accusations while being represented by an attorney. On his own plea, the presiding judge, Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi, sentenced him to life in prison with hard labour.

According to the statement, the prisoner would serve his term at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison. The Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the rule of law and guaranteed the public that it would not cease in its efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for law-abiding people.
