The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) has had its recognition reinstated by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) following the implementation of remedial actions to allay concerns that resulted in the institute’s temporary revocation of its status.
In a letter dated January 8, 2026, and signed by Jerry Sarfo, the Director of Corporate Affairs, for the Director-General, GTEC said that it was pleased with the actions ICAG and its Chief Executive Officer, Eric Oduro Osae, had taken to rectify identified breaches, such as the rectification of previously published erroneous information.
The Commission observed that the restoration follows its prior choice to revoke ICAG’s recognition due to quality assurance issues related to Mr Oduro Osae’s use of an unearned doctoral title. The Institute’s certificates were not recognized from the date of withdrawal until corrective measures were taken.
In a letter dated January 8, 2026, the Institute formally notified GTEC of the steps it had taken to address the issues, as stated by GTEC. The Commission determined that the violations had been sufficiently rectified after evaluating the response.
“Therefore, the Commission is pleased that the identified breaches have been adequately remedied,” the letter said. “Therefore, with immediate effect, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) recognizes the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG). ”
In addition, GTEC stated that the Commission now completely acknowledges all professional certifications given by ICAG since the date of restoration.
Mr. Eric Oduro Osae’s appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of ICAG was also welcomed by the Commission, which wished him well in his new position.
