Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, has mandated a thorough inquiry into the passing of Innocentia Avinu, a 20-year-old student at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) who was reported missing before being discovered dead on a Cape Coast beach.

The order comes after authorities verified that the Level 200 student’s body had been discovered days after she was reported missing, with investigations now ongoing to ascertain the reasons surrounding her death.
The ministry called the incident “deeply upsetting” in a statement released on Sunday, June 14, and urged peace as security organisations started working to determine the facts of the case.
Furthermore, the minister instructed the University of Cape Coast management to collaborate with the Ghana Police Service in order to support investigations and provide any information that may aid in determining what caused the student’s death.
Additionally, the ministry urged the public to refrain from meddling with the investigation process and expressed its sympathies to the bereaved family, friends, and the university community.
