OSP Probes NPP Presidential and NDC Ayawaso East Primaries Over Vote-Buying Allegations.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor, OSP, has launched investigations into alleged vote buying and vote selling during recent party primaries organised by the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress.

In a public notice dated February 8, 2026, the anti-corruption body confirmed it has commenced separate investigations into the NPP presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, and the NDC parliamentary primaries conducted in the Ayawaso East Constituency on February 7, 2026.

According to the OSP, the investigations are focused on allegations of vote buying, vote selling, and the sources of funding behind the suspected corrupt practices.

The Office disclosed that it also carried out a real-time monitoring and investigative operation during the NDC primaries in Ayawaso East following reports of electoral malpractice and voter intimidation.

The statement further alleged that during the Ayawaso East contest, one of the parliamentary candidates, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, abetted some individuals to physically assault an authorised officer of the OSP who was performing official investigative duties related to the vote-buying allegations.

As a result, the OSP has opened an additional probe into the alleged attack on the officer.

The Special Prosecutor emphasised that corrupt electoral practices remain criminal offences under Ghanaian law. It warned that acts such as vote buying, vote selling, intimidation, threats of violence, and physical attacks are punishable.

The Office reiterated its commitment to pursuing all credible allegations and taking appropriate legal action where evidence supports prosecution.

Investigations are ongoing.
