Government to establish two new military units in the Central and Oti Regions.

As part of efforts to address new security challenges and improve national defense, President John Mahama has announced the creation of two new military units in the Central and Oti regions.

The President stated at the conclusion of the End of Year West Africa Social Activity (WASSA) 2025, which took place on Friday, January 23, at Accra’s Burma Camp, that the action is a reflection of the shifting security environment throughout the nation.

“The government has made the strategic choice to create two new military forces in the Oti and Central regions,” he stated.

The reason for the action, he said, was “emerging security dynamics and the need to strengthen our national response framework. “

The ongoing recruiting drive inside the Ghana Armed Forces, which President Mahama claimed is intended to increase the military’s capabilities over the next several years, was also discussed.

He said, “The continuing recruitment campaign, which started last year, intends to add 12,000 people to the Ghana Armed Forces over the next four years. “

He claims that this growth will “improve operational capacity and sustainability. “

But during the event, the President expressed the nation’s sadness at the tragic loss of life during the recent recruitment drive.

“Let me once again convey our nation’s deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of our youth who perished in the stampede at El Wak Stadium during the recent recruitment exercise,” he stated.

Additionally, he expressed his best wishes for the recovery of anyone who was hurt in the event. “I wish a rapid recovery for anyone who is hurt during the exercise,” President Mahama said.
