Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Esther Smith has revealed that she received death threats ahead of her return to Ghana in December 2025, a disclosure that has sent shockwaves through the gospel music community.
Speaking in an interview with PAAM TV UK on January 13, 2026, the celebrated singer said the threats emerged while she was preparing to travel from the United Kingdom for the highly publicised Alpha Hour Convocation in Accra.
According to Esther Smith, an unknown individual using a Nigerian telephone number sent her a series of threatening messages, demanding a staggering €300,000 and warning that her life would be in danger if the money was not paid.
“I know my management will not say it, but I will. Before my return to Ghana, someone sent me messages threatening to harm me and demanding €300,000 to spare my life,” she disclosed.
The gospel icon revealed that the threat was taken seriously by security agencies. She said officers from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) provided her with protection throughout her participation in the 2025 Alpha Hour event, which was held at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Esther Smith further alleged that the individual behind the threats claimed to have been hired by her “enemies” and also threatened to hijack her YouTube channel. She noted that her management team initially withheld some details of the incident to avoid distractions ahead of her ministration at the event.
The singer added that this was not the first time she had received such threats, describing the situation as part of a worrying pattern.
Appealing to her fans, loved ones, and the wider Christian community, Esther Smith called for continued prayers for her safety, strength, and protection.
