Prof Frimpong-Boateng is part of NPP’s destruction – NPP Dep. Gen. Sec.: Haruna Mohammed

The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has accused former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, of contributing to the party’s decline.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, Mr Mohammed said Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s past actions had negatively affected the party at the grassroots level.

He cited administrative challenges during the former minister’s tenure as Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, where he oversaw operations including excavators, gold seizures, and infrastructure projects, some of which resulted in losses or incomplete projects.

“This is a person who has been one of those who have contributed to the downfall of the party. If you go down there and ask the grassroots of the party, you will see the damage that professor has done to the New Patriotic Party,” Mr. Mohammed said.

The remarks come as the NPP moves forward with formal steps to expel Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, following his public criticism of the party, in which he described it as “fake” and questioned its internal democratic processes.

Mr Mohammed added that the former minister has openly indicated he no longer wishes to remain a member of the party, and the NPP is taking steps to “grant his wish” in accordance with its constitution.

He emphasised that the party enforces discipline strictly, warning that “no one, regardless of position, can act above the party,” and that violations of party rules will face appropriate action.
